Strathcona County RCMP charge man after firearms discharge complaint

On May 6, 2024, at 5:46 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP received a report of a firearm being discharged in close vicinity of residences on Range Road 223 in Strathcona County.

Upon arrival, the suspect had gone back into their residence. RCMP issued a shelter in place for local residents while they responded to this potentially volatile situation. Within a short amount of time, police were able to speak to the suspect, verbally deescalate the situation and the suspect surrendered to police.

 The Strathcona County General Investigations Section has taken carriage of the investigation.  RCMP have charged Strathcona County resident Michael Patrick Campeau (40) with:

  • Careless use of a firearm;
  • Discharging a firearm with intent.

Campeau has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 8, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park.
