Mundare receives additional funds to battle Covid costs

Mundare is eligible for $91,273 under the Municipal Operating Support Transfer program. The program is a joint effort from the province and the federal government.

“It’s designed to help offset any costs incurred through costs associated with the pandemic,” said CAO Colin Zyla.

Mundare councillor Irene Talaga is all smiles as she is sworn in as the town’s Deputy Mayor by Mayor Mike Saric at the beginning of the Oct. 6 council meeting. The Deputy Mayor position is rotated among councillors annually.

“It deals with expenses and lost revenue. Any funds not used should be returned to the government.”

He said it would cover costs of masks and sanitizers purchased by the town. He further thought the town may be eligible to put in a claim for lost revenue from Ukrainia Park under the program, but he did want to check this further.

Saric asked if non-profits supported by the town could qualify for any funding, and Zyla replied he didn’t think so but he would be seeking clarification.

Frank Rosypal was sworn in as the Town of Mundare’s newest councillor Oct. 6 at the beginning of the regular council meeting by Mayor Mike Saric. Rosypal was elected in early September to fill the vacant seat following the resignation of former councillor Jaime Burghardt.
