Landfill maintains regular hours during Covid crisis
In this era of self isolation and quarantining, the St. Michael landfill continues to operate with its regular hours.
“The hours of operation are the same from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday,” said Linda Davies, manager of the St. Michael Landfill commission.
“We put a Covid -19 policy in place in early March when we were first hearing about it and have modified it as things progressed.”
She said some people coming to dump were known to have been in self quarantine, but by coming to the dump were breaking those rules and they were dealt with “quite sternly.”
“We were able to maintain the proper social distancing from them and no money or scale tickets were changing hands,” she said. “For the most part the scale operator is generally more than six feet away when you go across the scale or are off loading.”
“We are an essential service, so we can’t be shut down, and will maintain our hours.”

In addition she said all equipment is regularly wiped down and all doorhandles in the various buildings are sanitized on a regular basis.
“We do have biohazardous material coming into the dump from the hospital so we know how to deal with it, but to date there have been no cases of Covid in Lamont County so we’ve had no biohazard waste of that type coming in.”
