Lamont couple in voluntary quarantine

A Lamont couple have put themselves in self imposed quarantine after visiting their son in china, to prevent any possible health scare locally with the Coronavirus COVID19 which is spreading around the world.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous to prevent any panic in the community, travelled to see their son, who lives in China, just after Christmas.

The wife of the couple works for a local hospital and after returning and consulting with the health officials at her workplace, they decided to go into voluntary quarantine, which will be over on Feb. 21.

“They firmed us up doing the quarantine,” said the husband of the couple in an interview.

“We we’re in China about three and half weeks,” he added. “We went just ahead of the lunar New Year.”

He said the Coronavirus wasn’t into the mainstream media at that time.

“We started to hear about it in mid-January. It was just starting to become recognized as a major problem.”

He said they weren’t anywhere near the Wuhan area where the virus is reported to have started.

He said when they landed in Edmonton they were picked up at the airport by friends, one who specializes in viruses.

He added Alberta Health Service also were in contact with them once they got back to Alberta to find out where they had been, and the dates and times.

“They wanted to find out if there had been any risks and determined there were none,” he said. “They said we don’t even have to wear masks when we’re outside after the quarantine is finished.”
