Fort Saskatchewan RCMP investigate robbery during Facebook Marketplace transaction

On May 22, 2024, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of a robbery that occurred during a Facebook Marketplace sale. The victim was attempting to sell an Iphone on the platform and set up a meet with the buyer. When the victim approached the buyer, a second suspect sprayed the victim with a mace type substance and both suspects attempted to take the phone. The victim was able to flee the area and retain his phone.

The two suspects are described as:

  • Very dark complexion;
  • Between the ages of 13 and 15 years old;
  • One wearing a black hoody, black pants black puffer vest black shoes;
  • One wearing black hoodie and white shoes.

While Fort Saskatchewan RCMP continue their investigation, they are asking the public to be cautious during online transactions.

“Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is equipped with a Safe Exchange Zone at the detachment” says Constable Janna Avery of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP, “This safe exchange zone aims to provide a secure environment for residents to conduct online transactions, child custody exchanges, and any other lawful transactions that require a safe meeting place. The Safe Exchange Zone provides a neutral, well-lit location for residents to conduct transactions without fear of potential criminal activity.”
