A large group of young people pose with their plaques and medals they received at the Lamont Fish and Game banquet and awards night, Jan. 25. A large crowd filled the Lamont Hall to dine on exotic foods and receive their awards after a successful year.

It was pretty much a sold out crowd that dined on exotic dishes as the Lamont Fish and Game Association held its annual dinner and trophy night, Jan 25.

Held at Lamont’s Community Hall, the evening began with appetizers of assorted sausage, smoked bear, smoked whitefish and deer jerky.

The evening featured silent auctions, door prizes, a dance and several other fun fund raisers.

Lamont Mayor Bill Skinner offered remarks from  the town and Alberta Fish and Game executive director Delinda Ryerson also addressed the crowded hall.

After a dinner that featured Roast Beef, Pulled Bear in BBQ sauce, Roast Deer, Moose Mushroom bites, Wild Ribs, Elk Stir Fry with pepper and onions, Waterfowl in tomato sauce, Venison Balls in BBQ sauce, Baked Rabbit, Baked Fish, salads, mashed potatoes vegetables, buns, gravy and desserts, awards were handed out.

In the junior categories: Anastazia Engman and Emmitt LaFrance won for Perch; Mikayla LaFrance and Emmitt LaFrance won for Walleye; Kaedyn Biro and Ben Chopping won for Northern Pike; Taylor Iverson won for girls Lake Trout and girls Burbot; Kaedyn Biro and Austin Shaw won for White-tail Deer; Clay Laronde won for boys Archery Moose; and Aiden Chopping won for boys Shed Antler.

Youth participation awards went to Ashlyn Nice, Emma Engman, Maxine Engman, Malcolm Engman, Reid Chudyk, Cole Chudyk, Lily Able, Jackson Able, Ryan Carstairs, Ben Crosby, Matthew Iverson, and Harley Hoefling.

There were three awards handed out for photography by the youth. Anastazia Engman won for scenery; Tatianna Pichota won for wildlife; and Ben Chopping won for trophy.

In the adult award categories: Jennifer Engman and Jason LaFrance won for women’s and men’s Perch; Robyn Butler and Jason LaFrance won for Walleye; Christine Hoefling and Kevin Crosby won for Goldeye; Christine Hoefling won for woman’s Sturgeon; Al Biro won for men’s Rainbow Trout; Jason LaFrance won for men’s Lake Trout; Jay Gordon won for men’s Burbot; Jason Carstairs won for Canada Goose; Cy Hallett won for White-Fronted Goose; Jason Carstairs received the award for Mallard Duck; while Chuck Varga took home the trophy for Ruffed Grouse.
