Bullarama POSTPONED amid pandemic fears
Clarification: in our original article/post, we incorrectly stated that the event was cancelled. It has, in fact, been POSTPONED due to the novel Coronavirus Pandemic. Our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
In a press release sent out last week organizer Rebecca Joseph said, “We’re hopeful we’ll be able to host it later in the year.”
She said the event sanctioned by the Bullriders of Canada had full support of the sanctioning body although it was the Lamont Ag. Society that made the decision to cancel.
The Bullarama had been scheduled for the Lamont Agricultural grounds May 2.
“The annual event attracts cowboys from across Canada and the US and in recent years has brought in some Brazilian cowboys as well.”
Joseph said if the cowboys were coming directly from the South American country they would have to be quarantined as per Federal restrictions, but she thought most were already working in North America.
“A lot of them come out just to compete in our event, but entries don’t open until two weeks prior to our event, so with entries not yet open our cowboys would have been affected.”
She said the society would take a financial hit due to the cancellation.
“We’re in a reasonable financial position but it is a major fundraiser for us,” she said. “So hopefully we will be able to reschedule at a later date.”
“If we’re not able to host Bullarama, we’ll probably look at other fundraisers as the summer progresses.”
Joseph added the Agricultural Society also puts on the Summer Sizzler Rodeo but said it’s too early to say whether this big event would be cancelled.

“The Bullarama is a different sanctioning event, so if we were to try and host them together it would have to be dual sanctioned.
“We’ve never really looked at doing that before but it’s something we may consider if we find it’s feasible.”
But, she said it was quite difficult to say when they could host the Bullarama again.
The Summer Sizzler is still a go, she said, for the July 11 -12 weekend.
“We’ll be looking at a decision on it pretty soon,” she added.
She said the Agricultural Society was fortunate that most of its major projects had been done at the rodeo grounds in previous years and that funding had mainly come from various grants. No major projects were scheduled for this year, which will lessen the impact of the loss of the Bullarama if it can’t be rescheduled.
This year would have been the 27th year for the Bullarama.
Joseph said the event is very popular attracting up to 1,000 people to the one-day event.
“The cowboys like this event because it is the highest paid,” she said. “They also get double points in the finals so we know we’re going to attract the highest calibre cowboys.”
