Alberta town introduces innovative safe exchange zone

In an effort to enhance public safety and provide a secure location for community members to conduct in-person transactions, High River RCMP and the Town of High River is pleased to announce the establishment of a Safe Exchange Zone in the RCMP parking lot.

The Safe Exchange Zone is a designated parking spot located at the High River RCMP visitor parking lot, at 1104 14 St. SE, High River. This initiative aims to provide a secure environment for residents to conduct online transactions, child custody exchanges, and any other lawful transactions that require a safe meeting place. The Safe Exchange Zone provides a neutral, well-lit location for residents to conduct transactions without fear of potential criminal activity.

The designated area will be marked with signage indicating its purpose as a Safe Exchange Zone. It is available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. High River RCMP encourages residents to take advantage of this resource to ensure their safety during in-person transactions. Although the camera will not be actively monitored, the location is under video surveillance.

“This initiative is an excellent example of the Town of High River and the local RCMP detachment working together to enhance the safety of our residents,” commented Sgt. Greg Wiebe.
