Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay charges in Wainwright Homicide

On Feb. 22, 2022, shortly before 4 p.m., Wainwright RCMP responded to a 911 call in relation to a break and enter in progress at a house near the Wainwright Hospital. Police arrived on scene within minutes and located a male assaulting a female victim with a weapon. Police arrested the male and immediately began life-saving efforts on the victim.

The victim was transported by EMS to hospital; however, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Wainwright RCMP engaged Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit who have taken over the investigation.

As a result of the investigation police have charged Joseph Fabian Dube (54) of Wainwright with first degree murder of Nicole Amundson (50) also of Wainwright.

Dube and Amundson were known to each other; however, were estranged.

After a judicial hearing, Dube was remanded into custody and will next be appearing in Vegreville Provincial Court on Feb. 28, 2022.

As these matters are now before the courts, no further details can be released.
