Southern Alberta RCMP nab tire thief
In August of 2024, RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in partnership with Lethbridge Police Service Property Crime Unit, entered into an investigation into fraudulent credit card purchases of BF Goodrich K02 tires. Six businesses in Southern Alberta received phone or online orders of BF Goodrich K02 275/60/R20 tires. An order of 8-12 tires would be purchased and a male would pick them up the next day in a U-Haul van.
On Aug. 22, 2024, three search warrants were executed in relation to this investigation. In total, 150 BF Goodrich K02 tires were recovered in two storage lockers.
Shawn Robineault (42), a resident of Montreal, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of the following:
- Fraud Over $5000
- Fraud Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Identity Fraud
- Identity Theft
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Robineault has been remanded into custody pending a judicial hearing on Aug. 26, 2024 at Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
RCMP SAD CRU is looking for further victims of the fraudulent tire purchases. Any tire resellers within Southern Alberta that sold over 8 BF Goodrich K02 tires in the month of August 2024, is asked to contact your local RCMP detachment non-emergency line or the Crime Reduction Unit at 403-945-7267.
