Fans watching for Mundare-raised April Lee Baker on last week’s episode of Masterchef Canada were surprised and disappointed when she didn’t appear with the initial line up.

“I got home and went to sleep but then woke up in excruciating pain,” she said. “I had numbness down my arms to my hands and I couldn’t get up.”
She added that the show’s producers, when contacted, sent her to the hospital where it was discovered she had a couple of bulging discs in her back along with some torn muscles.
“It was extremely painful and debilitating. Mentally I was in a bad place and trying to will my body to just get over it. I wasn’t able to bend and my general range of motion was very limited,” she added on a Facebook post.
“I received great care at the hospital and was able to see a chiropractor before my very difficult flight home.”

Baker did add she was excited to have been able to take part in the competition even though she had to leave early.
“I would go back in a heartbeat. There’s something magical that happens in that kitchen. You grow as a person and as a chef.”
